San Fernando mayor donates 6 months salary for gift-giving

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO Christmas is indeed the season of giving for Mayor Vilma Caluag of this capital city.

This, after she disclosed that she is donating her salary since she assumed post as local chief executive in June to supplement the budget for the city government’s gift-giving program.

“‘Yung sweldo ko kasi ng anim buwan i-share ko rin para mas madami at mabigyan lahat,” Caluag said.

She did not disclose the actual amount that she will be donating but Department of Budget’s data shows that a city mayor has an allocation of Salary Grade 30.

A Salary Grade 30 is equivalent to minimum P185,695 per month, or at least P1.1-million for six months.

Caluag said packing and distribution of the food packs to most needy families in the city have already started over the weekend.

Each pack contains a spaghetti package, cheese, loaf bread, Christmas ham, and sterilized milk.

She said they are targeting to finish the distribution before December 22.

“Hinihintay lang namin ‘yung data mula sa barangay captains natin pero hopefully bago December 2022 matapos na para ready na ang pangNoche Buena ng bawat Fernandino,” Caluag said.

Aside from food packs, Caluag said the local government also awarded P10,000 each over the weekend to 280 dialysis patients in the city.

“Nadelay kasi ang opening ng dialysis center natin dahil pending pa ang approval ng DOH kaya nagbigay na muna tayo ng pangdialysis at pamasko na rin nila,” she said.

She added that the 280 recipients are those that are enrolled at the free dialysis program of the city government.
