DA notes increase in prices of agri, fishery products

THE Department of Agriculture Davao Region (DA-Davao) noted an increase in the prices of basic commodities as of December 2, 2022.

Alexander Sibuan, market specialist of the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division of Davao-Davao, said on Tuesday, December 6 the price increase is expected during December or the yuletide season despite having enough supply.

“Naa tay nakita na increase gamay sa atong presyo, it’s because approaching atong holiday season, as well as na-struck sa series of typhoons ang Luzon (We’ve seen a slight increase in the prices because of the approaching holiday season and Luzon was struck by typhoons). (But) maski daghan production, by December mutaas gyod ang price (even though production is ample, prices really increase during December),” Sibuan said during a media forum.

Based on the price monitoring of DA-Davao at the Bankerohan Retail Market, premium imported commercial rice is at P44 and P40 for imported well-milled rice per kilogram, while premium local commercial rice is priced at P43, P39 for well-milled, and P36 for regular-milled.

Per kilogram of fish, bangus is priced at P160, P170 for tilapia, P240 and P240 galunggong.

For livestock and poultry, pork liempo is P320 per kilogram, P170 for whole chicken, P6.50 for medium-sized chicken eggs, P450 for beef rump, P360 for beef brisket, and P270 for pork pique.

For vegetables, ampalaya is priced at P80 per kilogram, P60 for sitao, P90 for native pechay, P30 for squash, P60 for eggplant, and P55 for tomato. Highland vegetables such as cabbage are P80, P100 for carrots, P90 for baguio beans, P100 for white potato, P60 for baguio pechay, and P25 for chayote.

Local red onion is P320 per kilogram, P100 for imported garlic, and P80 for ginger while calamansi is P70, P35 for lakatan banana, P25 for latundan banana, P30 for papaya, and P100 for carabao mango.

Other basic commodities namely refined sugar and brown sugar are priced at P105 and P90 per kilogram while palm oil is P85 and coconut cooking oil is P90 per liter. ICM
