Police: Local ordinances implementation big factor in preventing crimes
THE implementation of local ordinances in Lapu-Lapu City is seen to have contributed to the prevention of crimes in the city.
This was what Police Colonel Elmer Lim, director of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), said as he noted their one week accomplishments in terms of the implementation of city ordinances.
LCPO’s records showed that around 1,079 individuals have violated different local ordinances in the city from November 28 to December 4, 2022.
Of the number, 762 were issued citation tickets due to traffic violations; 81 minors were reprimanded for violating the curfew hour; 87 were caught half-naked or not wearing any upper clothes in public places; 40 individuals were caught smoking in prohibited places; 96 were drinking in public places; and 13 were caught using tinted helmets.
“Makita nato dinhi nga usa sa atong mga nakapaubos gyud o nakapa-maintain sa kahapsay or kalinaw mao ning simple implementation of local ordinance nag naka-contribute sa pag-prevent sa krimen,” said Lim, stressing the criminals felt the police presence in the community.
Based on their weekly monitoring, Lim said the prevalent crimes in the city were theft, robbery, and physical injury.
While he could not yet give the exact data, the city director stressed that there was no significant increase in the trend from the months of October and November.
“In short, ang atoang focus crime normal siya. Based on weekly crime trend, wala ta’y nakita nga pagsaka (we have not seen an increase in number of cases),” he said.
He said all station commanders were instructed to watch out for their deployment based on their crime mapping or where the crimes usually occurred and on what days and time.
With this, security measures such as mobile patrolling and checkpoints are being conducted within the city.
“Mao gyud na ang reason, ang factor ngano nga nagpabilin nga kita wala mosaka ang krimen, especially crimes against persons and property during holiday or Christmas season,” he said.
Lim reported around 11 drug personalities who were arrested, including a high-value individual, from November 29 to December 4.
They yielded a total of 152.76 grams of shabu with a standard drug price value of P1,038,768, he said.
Lim also said that the LCPO sequestered 29 unlicensed firearms with three persons arrested in the same period.
The city director also revealed that 23 wanted persons were arrested in just a week, three of whom were tagged as most wanted persons. One of the arrested persons was the top most wanted person in Mandaue City.
Meanwhile, Lim said they have already identified the areas of concern during the Yuletide season, particularly churches that will be holding Masses during the Simbang Gabi.
He said they will be using the same template when it comes to security just as what they did during the previous months’ big activities.
The city director said they will maximize their number of police personnel to be deployed in different areas, including checkpoints and border controls.
He also stressed that they have strengthened their Barangay Intelligence Network down to the sitio or purok level to help identify individuals who may possibly commit crimes in relation to the Ligtas Kapaskuhan. (MKG)
