Smuggled agri products seized in Subic Freeport

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO A container containing agricultural products believed to be smuggled into the country was recently intercepted at the Port of Subic

Prior to this, Bureau of Customs Port of Subic District Collector Maritess Martin issued Alert Orders on December 1 against shipments that originated from China.

The products were imported by two companies named Veneta Consumer Goods Trading and Lalavy Aggregates Trading.

A physical examination conducted on December 6 revealed that the 1x40’ shipment of Veneta Consumer Goods Trading declared as assorted foodstuff contained frozen carrots.

The 2x40’ shipments consigned to Lalavy Aggregates Trading, declared as frozen lobster balls and crabsticks were found to contain Fresh Red & White Onions.

The inspection was witnessed by Martin, and representatives of the Department of Agriculture led by Assistant Secretary James Layug and Shirley P. David of the Bureau of Plant and Industry - Plant Quarantine Service Region 3.

Also present were representatives from the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc.

The Port of Subic will issue Warrants of Seizure and Detention (WSD) against the shipments after the conduct of complete examination and inventory.

The consignee allegedly violated DA Administrative Order No. 18 series of 2000, DA Circular No. 4 series of 2016, and Section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 (f) of Republic Act (RA) 10863, otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
