Magnitude 5.3 earthquake hits Camarines Norte

A MAGNITUDE 5.3 earthquake hit Camarines Norte on Wednesday morning, December 7, 2022, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the tectonic earthquake that happened around 1:05 p.m. was located in Tinaga Island in the said province.

It said it was felt at Intensity V in Mercedes and Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte; intensity IV in Daet, Camarines Norte and Guinayangan and Polillo, Quezon; and intensity III in Ragay, Pili and Iriga City, Camarines Sur; Mauban, Lopez, Mulanay, Alabat and Gumaca, Quezon.

It was also felt in Tabaco, Albay; Dingalan, Aurora; Batangas City; Calumpit, Plaridel, Pulilan, Marilao and San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Sagnay, Camarines Sur; Carmona, Cavite; Marikina City, Quezon City and Pasig City in Metro Manila; Gapan City, Nueva Ecija; Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro; Guagua, Pampanga; Infanta, Pangasinan; Dolores, Infanta, Calauag, Quezon and Taytay and Tanay, Rizal at Intensity II.

Intensity I was recorded in Legazpi City, Albay; Bulakan, Santa Maria, Guiguinto, Obando, Malolos City, Pandi and Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan; Tagaytay City and Ternate, Cavite; Candon, Ilocos Sur; Calamba and Los Banos, Laguna; Malabon City, Pasay, Muntinlupa City and San Juan City, Metro Manila; Mapanas, Northern Samar; San Antonio, Gabaldon, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija; Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro; Tayabas and Lucena City, Quezon; and Angono, Morong, Antipolo and Cainta, Rizal.

The agency said there is no expected damage from the quake but aftershocks may occur. (SunStar Philippines)
