In line with Zonta International and Zonta Club Cebu 2’s global annual awareness program aptly called ”18 Days of Activism,” the club hopes to focus on Women’s and Children’s rights.

How? By launching a Women, Gender and Family Studies Section at the Cebu City Public Library.

“The installation is part of the Club’s ’18 Days of Activism’ to stop gender-based violence, which commenced last Nov. 25,” announced Tourism Undersecretary and Zonta Cebu 2 president, lawyer Mae Elaine Bathan.

“The section contains reading materials on Gender mainstreaming and various laws on the rights of women and children. These materials are a way to empower those who are the most vulnerable, that are, the women and children,” she said.

In conclusion, it is Zonta Cebu 2’s top priority as it comes in unity with the rest of the country to finally establish a VAW (Violence Against Women)-free Philippines.

There are a few more of the 18 days left, so, here are more gender-based activities: The well-timed webinar ”Youth, Peace and Conflict Resolution towards a Generation of Peace Builders,” had renowned psychologist and lecturer, doctor Jerry J. Jurisprudencia, as speaker on Dec. 6.

Today, lawyer Mylene Esquivel will dig deep into the issue of “Implementing Rights-Based VAW-C Services: The Role of the Four Pillars in the Recovery of VAW-C Survivors.”

Tomorrow, the forum on “Engaging Men and Boys as allies in Ending Gender-based Violence” is on schedule at the Oakridge Business Park, Mandaue City, with lawyer Bobby Quitain as prestigious speaker.

A third webinar on the topic, “Voyeurism: New Age Violence against Women and Children” and the Salient Features of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act, will be something relevant on Dec. 12. Another happening on the same day is the virtual announcement of the winners of the poetry and photography competition. Watch for it!

A fitting finale to end these advocacies is the giving of Christmas favors, thru E-visit, to the inmates of the Mandaue City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on Dec. 15.

Here’s to advanced wishes for happy and healthy holidays!
