DENGUE cases in Bacolod City is now196.3 percent higher as of November 26, 2022 compared to the same period last year.
Records from the City Health Office (CHO) showed yesterday, December 7 that the city had a total of 960 dengue cases with 13 fatalities.
For the same period last year, there were only 324 cases and three deaths.
Of the 61 barangays, Barangay Mansilingan had the highest number of cases with 118, followed by Barangay Taculing - 80; Estefania - 67; Tangub; 62; and Singcang-Airport-61; Villamonte - 57; Alijis - 51; Cabug-48; Mandalagan- 47; and Sum-ag - 45.
Dr. Grace Tan, head of City Health Office’s Environment Sanitation Division, said they were conducting spraying and fogging in various barangays including the schools to prevent the increase of dengue infection.
She said they were also conducting "recorida” in the barangays and the sanitation inspectors were also deployed to assist the barangay in the implementation of their dengue action plan.
She added that dengue still affects people of different ages, gender through a bite of female infected mosquitoes.
Tan noted that mosquitoes carrying dengue virus breed in non-moving, clear water in big or small containers, adding that patients with dengue easily get dehydrated leading to low blood pressure and shock.
Tan also reiterated that the public should practice the 4S program of the Department of Health.
The 4S stands for "Search and destroy” mosquito-breeding sites, practice "Self-protection measures” such as wearing of long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and daily use of mosquito repellent "Seek early consultation” and "Support fogging/spraying.” (MAP)
