A TOTAL of 44 teams will battle for supremacy in the grand resumption of the Arcadia-powered Ateneo Reunion Cup (ARC) that will tip off today, December 8 at the Martin Hall of Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) in Jacinto, Davao City.

According to ARC founder and seasoned Addu coach Miggy Solitaria, this year's edition has by far the largest number of entries coming from batches 90's to present, making a total of 208 games from beginning to finals.

Solitaria excitedly shared that famous and active alumni varsities of Addu who currently play in premier collegiate basketball leagues in the country are suiting up in their respective batch years.

"Joining are Francis "Ef" Escandor of De La Salle University, Axel Doromal of Arellano University, Jose Presbitero, Shoti Cabigas, and more," Solitaria said during the AFP-PNP Press Corps held Wednesday at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.

This season, Solitaria said, will feature four Divisions including Division 1 (29 and below; 30 and up), Division 2 (non-varsity), Women's Division, and Open Division, far from the previous season which only has two divisions to choose from.

The Division 1 High School Category defending champion Batch 2017, and Division 1 30 years and up title holder Batch 2003 are set to defend their thrones in the hoop fest bankrolled by Arcadia Active Lifestyle Center.

Solitaria said the regular games will be played at the Addu College in Jacinto and Grade School Campus in Matina while the semi-finals and finals matches will be hosted by the state-of-the-art Arcadia facility.

The curtain raiser today is staging the game between Batch 2009 and Batch 2012 in Division 1 at Court A, and the match between Passerelle and Batch 2011 in Division 2 at Court B of Martin Hall.

Solitaria, meanwhile, founded ARC in 2005 in a bid to provide an active avenue for the alumni to practice camaraderie and fellowship among former and active Blue Knights.

He shared that it started with only six teams until it grew this big at present.

"We have also made ARC a facility to raise funds and donate these to the basketball program of Addu" Solitaria said, sharing that they are consistently raising P500,000 to P1 million every ARC season. (PR)
