Province to mark Odette anniversary with Christmas lighting on Dec. 16

THE Cebu Provincial Government will hold the Christmas lighting at the Capitol on Dec. 16, 2022.

The date marks the one-year anniversary of super typhoon Odette (Rai), which ravaged Metro Cebu and the southern part of the province.

The second costliest typhoon in the country’s history toppled electric posts that plunged hundreds of thousands of people into darkness and destroyed and damaged houses and establishments that were still recovering from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, among others.

According to Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Cebuanos have been through a lot since lockdown was imposed in March 2020.

“And so rather than commemorate or dwell upon the misery and the hardship that we went through, we would wish on this 16th of December to send out a message of hope and unity. Where there is unity, there is hope and when there is hope there is unity,” Garcia said.

Accordingly, the governor invited all the mayors of Cebu together with the local chief executives of the tri-cities to attend the activity. (ANV / PJB)
