A TEENAGER and his brother, who is a minor, were killed while their friend was injured when the motorcycle they were riding hit a parked truck along the national highway in Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, December 8, 2022.
Traffic Investigator Staff Sergeant Renoe Gerzon identified those who were killed as John Lawrence Mesobre, 19, and his 17-year-old brother, whose name is being withheld for being a minor, both of the city’s Barangay San Miguel.
Gerzon said the teenagers died upon arrival at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital.
Their friend Dan Fred Locsin, 33, of Sitio Carolina in the city’s Barangay II was transferred to a hospital in Bacolod City, where he is now recuperating, he said.
Investigation showed that the trio were on a motorcycle driven by the elder Mesobe when they accidentally slammed into the rear portion of a parked truck loaded with sugarcane before they slid underneath the vehicle.
“The truck was parked in the dark portion of the area after it encountered mechanical malfunction,” adding that there were unconfirmed reports that the victims were under the influence of liquor.
He said the victims were also not wearing their helmets when the accident occurred.
The owner of the truck is willing to help the victims’ families financially, the police said.
