LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan expects the new secretary of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (Opav) to act as a bridge so that prompt actions will be taken to address problems in the entire Visayas.

This, as he welcomed the appointment of Terence Calatrava, saying it is a great honor for Oponganons as the latter is a native of Barangay Pajo in the city.

He pointed out that this is the first time that a Lapu-Lapu City resident has become a member of the Cabinet.

“So, dako na og bintaha sa taga Lapu-Lapu kay siguro dili gyud pagmakuli sa pagtabang ang atoang Opav (Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas) secretary labi na sa mga problema nga giatubang sa atong siyudad sa Lapu-Lapu,” he added.

(So, the people of Lapu-Lapu have a big advantage because maybe our Opav secretary will not hesitate to help, especially with the problems faced by the city.)

The mayor described Calatrava as hardworking and a successful businessman, adding that he personally knows the Calatrava family.

“Unya siya aktibo kaayo sa mga kalihokan sa mga nanginahanglan kay siya usa man sa nagdala sa Tingog partylist nga naka-distribute panahon sa typhoon Odette and panahon sa Covid-19 (coronavirus disease),” said Chan.

(He has been very active in helping those in need because he was one of those who brought the Tingog Party-list to help distribute assistance during typhoon Odette and the Covid-19 pandemic.)

Calatrava formally took his oath of office before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin at Malacañang on Tuesday, December 6.

Calatrava’s appointment came five months after businessman Michael Lloyd Dino ended his stint as the Opav secretary. (MKG, PJB)
