IT WAS a terrifying scene for the parents of a 16-year-old girl in Cadiz City following the recovery of her body Sunday morning, December 11, three days after she was reported missing.
Lieutenant Colonel Gil John Despi, chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said yesterday, December 12, they believed that the girl could have been sexually abused as she had no undergarments when her body was found.
Investigation showed that the victim’s classmate and her parents found her body stuffed in a sack floating along Panikion River at Sitio Morente in the city’s Barangay Cabahug.
Despi said the victim had several stab wounds and was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
He said the victim’s parents reported that she had gone missing after their class on Friday, December 9.
“We will wait for the medico legal officer’s report... she was probably killed on the day that she went missing,” the police official said.
A follow-up operation was conducted yesterday which led to the arrest of the suspect, who is the victim’s neighbors.
Despi said that the suspect was arrested through the help of a witness.
Some of the personal belongings of the victim and the knife possibly used in the killing were recovered from the suspect’s house, he said.
“We are now preparing the necessary documents so we could file the charges against him (suspect),” Despi noted.
