A DRIVER of a motorcycle was killed after he was run over by a truck along the national highway in Purok Caimito, Barangay Looc in the northern town of San Remigio, Cebu, on Wednesday night, December 14, 2022.

Major Windell Abellana, chief of the San Remigio Police Station, identified the victim as Carlito Allego Lumapas, a 61-year-old resident of Purok Orchids in the same barangay.

Abellana said Lumapas was declared dead on arrival at the hospital in neighboring Bogo City.

According to their initial investigation, the victim was returning home from a drinking session with friends when he crashed into a parked tricycle owned by Albert Bordaje, a resident of the barangay.

While his motorcycle fell on impact, Lumapas was thrown to the ground and ended up getting run over by a passing truck driven by Michael Nablea Manis, a 33-year-old resident of Barangay Marmol in the midwestern town of Tuburan, Cebu.

The accident happened at 10:05 p.m.

“Nakadaog lagi daw ning biktima sa buwangan. Nagtagay uban sa mga higala unya hubog na nga mipauli kusog kaayo nakapadagan,” Abellana said.

(The victim had been celebrating because he reportedly won at the cockpit. He had a few drink with friends and went home drunk. He was driving very fast.)

Police detained the driver of the truck while waiting for the victim’s relatives to file charges. (GPL/PJB)
