THE number of traffic violators apprehended by the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) in the first 15 days of December 2022 is almost 100 percent more than the number of violators apprehended in the last 15 days of November.

Based on records of the CCTO, 10,158 were arrested in December compared to the 6,253 arrested the month before.

Raquel Bohol-Arce, head of the CCTO, said violators were arrested for overloading, driving an unregistered public utility vehicle (PUV) or a PUV with an expired registration, driving without a license or an ID from the CCTO and disregarding traffic signs, among others.

The CCTO also impounded 400 motorcycles, 19 private vehicles, 142 e-bikes, 20 tricycles, eight trisikads, one trailer, one taxi and one modern public utility jeepney during this period.

Arce, who replaced Paul Gotiong as head of CCTO last October 19, said she will continue to intensify operations against drivers of PUVs, private vehicles, motorcycles and other types of vehicles who violate traffic rules.

She said the CCTO will not issue traffic citations or impound vehicles if there are no violators.

Meanwhile, she urged the thousands of drivers who have citation tickets to settle their penalties to avoid getting charged before the Municipal Trial Court in Cities. (PAC, PJB)
