LIKE mother, like daughter.

A daughter followed in her mother’s footsteps to become a registered nurse. She was inclined to become a nurse since her mother also works in the United States with the same profession.

Arine Gale Garin, daughter of Negrense Pinky Garin - Sola, earned her Associate Degree in Nursing with honors and was a leadership awardee at the said college, drawing inspiration from her mother.

She recently graduated from her course at Amarillo College in Amarillo, Texas.

Garin finished her studies without her mother spending a single centavo because she was a full academic scholar in her school. And what she has achieved is indeed heartwarming for her and her parents. Her mother is excited to work with her, and she, too, feels equally the same.

During their graduation, Arine was surprised to be asked to deliver a short message before her fellow graduates, so she told them, “Thank you so much for giving me this honor and receiving this amazing award. I want to thank everyone for believing in me, coming here, and joining me on this journey. Thank you so much. And I hope to continue providing the kind of service that our patients need.”

The younger Garin shared, “My mom and I migrated to Texas in third grade. Still, studying abroad is fun and exciting. I enjoyed meeting new friends and learning about the American culture. My preparation consisted of studying daily with my classmates, tutors and endless amounts of iced coffee. I chose Nursing since I liked the profession.”

Moreover, she expressed how she learned much about healthcare when she was young since her mother exposed her to it. She saw how nurses could improve the lives of others, and it provided a wide variety of choices among the profession: be it medical, surgical, pediatrics, or critical care.

Garin also shared her plans after graduation which is to continue her nursing career through obtaining a master’s degree education and become a nurse anesthetist.

“I advise others to have self-discipline and focus solely on their goals. It’s easy to get lost in the lives of our family and friends, but prioritize and take care of yourself no matter what. It’ll be rough sometimes, but as long as you persevere, you’ll get through it,” she added.

Her parents Pinky and Miguel, brother Kyriel, and grandparents, Carlos and Dolly Garin, were extremely proud of her academic achievements.*
