THE Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD 7) has allotted P132.39 million for the cash-for-work (CFW) program for the thousands of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the region.
DSWD 7 Director Shalaine Marie Lucero said a total of 31,584 PWDs from 129 local government units are expected to benefit from the program, which aims to provide short-term employment to low income families with members who have disabilities.
In case the beneficiary cannot perform the assigned task because of physical limitations, they may recommend a member of their family to do the job on their behalf.
In Cebu City, the DSWD 7, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), distributed a total of P8.49 million for the salaries of 1,953 PWDs at the Abellana National School gym on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022.
The beneficiaries rendered community service, such as cleanup and tree planting for 10 days last month.
The CFW program dubbed “BUHAYnihan or Buhay at Bayanihan para sa Mamamayan Cash-for-Work for Persons with Disabilities” is being spearheaded by DSWD’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS).
