THE spirit of Christmas is reflected in giving, sharing and forgiving. We can’t live out its truest meaning unless we make Christmas an occasion to share our blessings. This is the reflection by Bacolodnon and public servant Jasmin Egan.
Egan once served as the Presidential Protocol Director II and was awarded the prestigious Order of Lapu-Lapu during the incumbency of President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
“My heart was overjoyed as I took the chance to impart blessings to the women of Metro Bacolod District Jail Female Dormitory in Barangay Handumanan,” she said.
For the official, these women do not have the freedom to spend time and celebrate this joyous season with their families and loved ones, but it doesn’t mean they deserve anything less. They may not enjoy the same freedom or liberty as the rest of us, but it doesn’t mean they don’t deserve second chances. Hence, it was her personal choice that led her to celebrate the season of giving with them.
“As a mom who had to work away from home, I know how it feels to be away from family. They are in this situation for reasons we don’t wholly comprehend, but one thing’s for sure, we are sometimes compelled to do certain things for the sake of family,” Egan said.
She further added that these people also have a deep desire to experience love and see a glimmer of hope through second chances, especially those who are willing to correct their mistakes and take positive steps to better their lives.
“I am heartily grateful to share the joy of Christmas with them in my little ways, and I wish that we all find it in our hearts to do the same to share love, sprinkle kindness, and make a difference in the lives of those who need more,” she stressed.
Egan sent another gentle reminder by saying that it’s not about how much we give, but by how much love we put into giving.
“May we all have a blessed and meaningful holiday season,” she expressed.
