DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) said it will create a special investigation task group (SITG) to probe the killing of the 38-year-old businesswoman in the city.

“Within two weeks kailangan may ma-filelan tayo ng kaso, as early as possible kasi hindi pwedeng patagalin ito, so within two weeks dapat magkaroon na kami ng linaw kung ano ang path na susundan namin (Within two weeks we need to file a case against whoever is involved in the incident. As early as possible because we do not want the investigation of this case to take long, so within two weeks we will be able to identify the direction that we are going to take to resolve this case),” DCPO Director PCol. Alberto Lupaz said during an ambush interview on December 30, 2022 at Rizal Park, Davao City.

On December 29, a businesswoman identified as Yvonne Chua was shot dead outside her house at Buttercup St. in the Green Meadow Subdivision, Brgy. Sto. Tugbok District, Davao City.

According to the initial police report, Chua had just gotten off her car when two unidentified motorcycle riders arrived and shot her as she was ready to open the gate to her home.

Lupaz said they already have a person of interest (POI) in the recent incident.

“As of now, mayroon tayong tinitingnan na anggulo at mga motibo, tinitingnan natin dito ay it could be personal grudge dahil businessman siya at tyaka personal life niya (We are checking different motives as to why she was killed, it could be personal grudge because she’s a businesswoman),” Lupaz said.

He added that it might also be robbery.

“Dahil kinuha ‘yong bag niya but we are not limiting only sa dalawang motibo na yon dahil it might be connected, interconnected sa mas deeper pa na rason kung bakit siya namatay (Because her bag is missing, but we are not limiting to to only these two possible motives because it might be connected [or] interconnected to a much deeper reason),” he said.

Lupaz said they are thoroughly investigating the incident and have been collecting evidence.

“Hopefully we can find more witnesses at tsaka mga (and even) evidence,” he said.

However, Lupaz said they are also aware of the different comments and evidence uploaded online as to why the businesswoman was killed but he said they have to check its authenticity.

“Alam natin sa social media ang daming lumalabas dyan, mga fake news, mga ganon-ganon, pwede pa nga gayahin yong account ng ibang tao at tyaka nakawin, so we are trying to investigate on that (There are a lot of information on social media but we are also aware that it could be fake news, people could even clone accounts or hack it),” he said.

Meanwhile, Lupaz said DCPO will enhance security measures in the city to ensure the capture of the suspect as well as ensure the safety of Dabawenyos. KSD
