A 49-YEAR-OLD man posing as an "albularyo" (herb doctor) was arrested by police operatives early Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City, for allegedly stealing jewelries from a client patient.

Talisay policemen arrested Joselito Maglangit Jarales, 49, after Jujilyn Ramirez, 32, a store attendant from Barangay San Roque in Talisay City, filed a complaint against the "albularyo".

According to Ramirez, Jarales introduced himself as an "albularyo". The bogus healing treatment was done inside her residence in Talisay City.

During the healing treatment, Ramirez said Jarales instructed her to wrap all her jewelry and place it on the altar. Ramirez said she was told to close her eyes for one hour while the treatment is ongoing. An hour later, Jarales was gone, as were the jewelries.

Ramirez immediately sought police assistance.

Talisay City Police Station Chief Colonel Randy Caballes said Jarales was also arrested on March 7, 2019, for a similar case and again on March 19, 2021, based on the complaint of a certain Bryan Pocong Saycon of Barangay Poblacion, Dumanjug, Cebu. It was not known when the crimes were committed.

Police said Jarales visits different places and offers home service to client patients.

Basak San Nicolas Barangay Councilor Giovanne Tabada told SunStar that he will propose to the barangay council to declare Jarales ‘persona non grata’ if he repeats the same mistake.

Jarales hails from Ozamis City and was only renting a room in Sitio Jansen with his live-in partner. (BBT, TPT,MVG)
