Estremera: The negativities of life

Estremera: The negativities of life

WE know so well by now, how there are more and more who only see the negative the longer we are exposed to social media.

Remember the father who posted about the formula milk he bought for his child? How about how we crucified Donnalyn? These are just two of a million posts, reels, and stories we imbibe every day if we allow social media to do that. Made worse if we join the fray and comment along the same thread.

Do we really need to? No. Just as we do not need to react to every status we read. Just don’t.

Social media is there to connect us to the world, long-lost friends, family members, or loved ones who are far away from where we live, it’s for instant messaging. Let’s nourish the good social media brings us because... why not?

Although, of course, that’s just me. Some get their highs through those means and I’m not here to burst their bubbles.

But, if you get the feeling of being in the middle of too much noise, even when alone, check your social media presence and interactions, the answer might be staring at you right from your cellphone screen.

It could not be your negative comments or others’ negative comments, it could be that twinge of envy you feel upon seeing your friends or acquaintances enjoying something you would have wanted to have in your life.

Never before have we been this close to everything wonderful... and bad.

All those food and restaurants, our friends, our posting, all those places they are going... yes, that feeling. I’m not perfect, I felt it too.

How then can we harness the best we can of this media form that has taken over our lives?

Honestly, I’m not quite sure how, but the Holy Books have always been telling us about discernment and its importance in finding meaning in our lives. It’s true then, it’s true now.

Still, it is not for us to stand in judgment of all those who have spoken bad. It’s their truth to face, not ours. Bless them and stay away. It’s as simple as that. Do not stand in judgment, just stay away. There are buttons for that: Unfollow, turn off notifications for this post, stop receiving posts like this, stop receiving posts from... unfriend... It has long been figured out, we just chose to stay in annoyance. But again, that is a choice and we do not stand in judgment of those who do not opt out.

Bottomline: We all have a choice. What the other has chosen is not for us to deride. What matters is what you decide and no, you do not have to explain why you did so. As Nike has long stated: Just do it. SAE
