Apalit mayor: Practice waste segregation

APALIT Mayor Oscar “Jun” Tetangco Jr. urged his constituents to practice proper waste segregation in their households.

During the turnover of garbage trucks to barangays and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Tetangco said proper sorting of garbage will help maintain cleanliness and save public funds.

“Tulung-tulong tayo para mabawasan ang dumi at makatipid tayo sa tipping fee. Ang masosobra natin sa tipping fee ay pwede na natin magamit sa ibang proyekto,” he said.

A tipping fee is the payment of the local government to the landfill where they dispose of waste based on the weight of waste per ton.

Tetangco said the local government allotted some 15-million annually for the tipping fee to Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation, the operator of Kalangitan landfill in Capas, Tarlac.

“Priority natin ang kalinisan dito sa bayan ng Apalit kasi kahit ano pang project gawin natin, kung madumi ang paligid, wala rin lahat ‘yun,” he said.

Tetangco said the local government allocated around 13-million for the purchase of the 13 garbage trucks.

He said the funding came from the 20% Development Fund of the local government.

“Ito po ay pondo ng munisipyo para sa kalinisan ng ating bayan. Wala pong inutang o hiningi para mabili ito,” Tetangco said.

In December 2021, the local government also purchased ambulances for the 12 barangays here.

“Pantay-pantay po dito, walang paborito. Serbisyo lahat sa bawat Apaliteño,” Tetangco said.
