CITY OF SAN FERNANDO The Department of Agriculture Region III (DA-3) has started monitoring onion production in Central Luzon.
The program, dubbed Monitoring of Onion Production, Distribution Performance and Assessment of DA Interventions, kicked-off in Tarlac on January 16.
It aims to check farms where onions are planted and gauge the expected produce that is being harvested.
The program also seeks to monitor the farm gate price once onions are harvested.
This is to anticipate the prices of onion, especially that Tarlac is the leading supplier of local onions in the Philippine market.
The activity was conducted amidst the continuing high prices of onion in the market which reach up to 700 per kilo.
The inspection and monitoring was led by DA Office of the Secretary (OSEC) Monitoring Team and High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Central Office together with its counterpart in Central Luzon.
