THE construction of eight infrastructure projects are underway for indigenous communities in the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and del Norte.
The construction of the projects was made possible through the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Mipa-Barmm).
Mipa Minister Melanio Ulama said in a statement Thursday, January 19, that the infrastructure projects, amounting to a total of P61.9 million, was funded under the 2021 Special Development Fund (SDF).
The project are as follows: Tribal Hall in Barangay Pura, Datu Odin Sinsuat; Tribal Hall in Bugabungan, Upi; Tribal Hall in Barangay Ranao Pilayan, Upi; Tribal Hall in Barangay Looy, South Upi; Water system level II in Barangay Kinitaan, Upi; Water system level II in Barangay Kabinge, Datu Saudi Ampatuan; Indigenous Peoples Peace Hall in Barangay Talisawa in Datu Abdullah Sangki; and 50 units core shelters in Barangay Limpongo in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan.
Ulama, who led the groundbreaking ceremony of the projects, ensured that the ministry will continue to provide quality services and protect the welfare of every indigenous people in Barmm.
He said the tribal halls are important as it will serve as a venue for the IPs to gather during important occasions such as tribal meetings, wedding and rituals, among others. (SunStar Zamboanga)
