CEBU Island can expect a fair weather condition over the weekend or in time for the Sinulog sa Carmen in Carmen town, north of Cebu, on Sunday, January 22, 2023, a weather bureau official said.

Engr. Al Quiblat, chief of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Visayas, said Cebu will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies, mostly sunny, with 40 percent probability of isolated rain showers in the afternoon and in the evening due to localized thunderstorms.

“Generally, Cebu will experience fair weather today and over the weekend,” Quiblat told SunStar Cebu on Friday, January 20.

He said the temperature range may hit 25 to 31 degrees Celsius with a heat index of 37 degrees Celsius.

Quiblat added that the public can expect light to moderate winds with 20 to 40 kilometers per hour northeast.

With this, Quiblat advised everyone, particularly the spectators of Sinulog sa Carmen, to take precautionary measures by bringing umbrellas and water and wearing light and comfortable clothes, among others, when attending the event.

The Sinulog sa Carmen street dancing will start at 1 p.m., followed by the performance of local contingents and those from other cities, including Cebu City.

Carmen Mayor Carlo Villamor said the event is expected to end at 10 p.m., but if there are adjustments, it may be extended.

Villamor said he expects a double or even triple number of people who will participate in the celebration at the town’s sports center since this is also the town’s 50th celebration. Viewing is also free for all.

However, in order to prevent people from crowding in the area, light emitting diode (LED) walls will be installed in the market and in front of the municipal hall to divide the number of people who would watch the event through the screen. (MKG)
