DENGUE cases in Bacolod City have increased by 189.8 percent from January to December 31, 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, City Health Office (CHO) records showed.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment Sanitation Division, said Friday, January 20, that they listed 1,020 dengue cases with 14 deaths in 2022 compared to 352 cases with three deaths in 2021.

Of the 1,020 cases, Barangay Mansilingan topped the list with 122 followed by Barangay Taculing with 84; Barangay Estefania, 70; Barangay Tangub, 69; Barangay Singcang-Airport, 63; Barangay Villamonte, 62; Barangay Alijis, 54; Barangay Mandalagan, 51; Barangay Cabug, 49; and Barangay Sum-ag, 46.

Tan said the barangays with clustering of dengue cases from December 10 to 31 include Barangays Tangub, Villamonte, Granada, Mandalagan, Banago, Estefania, Taculing, and Alijis.

She said these barangays recorded three or more dengue cases within four consecutive weeks.

Tan stressed that the public should practice the 4S program of the Department of Health which stands for Search and destroy mosquito breeding places; use Self-protection measures; Seek early consultation for fever lasting more than two days; and Say no to indiscriminate fogging.

The CHO was also conducting spraying and fogging in various barangays including the schools to prevent the increase of dengue infection.

Tan said they were also conducting “recorida” in the barangays and the sanitation inspectors were also deployed to assist the barangay in the implementation of their dengue action plan.

She said dengue still affects people of different ages, gender through a bite of female infected mosquitoes.

She added that mosquitoes carrying dengue virus breeds in non-moving, clear water in big or small containers, adding that patients with dengue easily gets dehydrated leading to low blood pressure and shock.
