A new leaf has been turned over for the oldest press club in the country. For its 87th edition, the Negros Press Club held its annual general assembly and election of officers.

The members of the Negros Press Club have elected their new set of officers in a hotly contested election among four contenders to the top post held at the Negros Media Center at San Juan Street, Bacolod City, on January 21, 2023.

XFM 96.7 Bacolod station manager Brian Morden won the NPC Presidency against his supposed three contenders, Rey Siason and Erwin Delilan, with Nanette Guadalquiver who got disqualified for being classified as a government-employed media with her employment as Bureau Chief of the Philippines News Agency (PNA).

The club-designated Commission on Election led by Boy Duran and Modesto Sa-only, Glazyl Masculino, and Chrysee Samillano disqualified Guadalquiver as some club members questioned her membership in the club on account that she is a state-employed media.

Morden got 36 votes against the 30 votes of Siason and Delilan with 24 votes.

The NPC Commission on Election led by Boy Duran declared Morden as the new President succeeding outgoing President Aquilino “Boy” Ciocon.

The elected Vice President is Sunstar Bacolod reporter Merlinda Pedrosa; Secretary Prime Tejida of RMN Bacolod; Max Macajilo Negros Now Daily; Auditor Elsie Jolingan of Negros Daily Bulletin.

"I'd like to thank all my colleagues in the Negros Press Club who voted for me. With the new set of officers, we will do our best to serve our fellow colleagues," Pedrosa said.

The Board of Directors are Jemlo Victosa of RMN Bacolod; Mae Singuay of Panay News; Marchel Espina, Sunstar Bacolod; and Alvin Grava of Aksyon Radyo.

Morden is currently serving as station manager of XFM 96.7. Prior to his employment at XFM 96.7, he was employed at Aksyon Radyo Bacolod as among its broadcasters.

Morden is a Mass Communications graduate at the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos.

He was grateful for the support of his fellow club members in electing him as club President.

He vowed to lead the club with integrity and dignity, upholding the esteem and respect of the oldest Press Club in the Philippines.

This club is more or less aging as the cityhood of Bacolod City, and such public stature should be preserved.

The term of office of the new NPC officers will become effective on March 1, 2023.

Morden has extended a hand of friendship to well-meaning club officers and members who are equally committed to contributing to the realization of the club’s mission and purpose, which is to strengthen the camaraderie among its members.*
