Most Reverend Jose S. Palma officiated at a solemn Eucharistic Celebration at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral on the occasion of his 25th Episcopal Ordination Anniversary, and his 12th year as Archbishop of Cebu. Joining him in the celebration were Cardinal Jose Fuerte Advincula (Archbishop of Manila), Cebu Auxiliary Bishops Midyphil Billones and Ruben Labajo, Bishops from the suffragan dioceses, and other visiting Bishops and priests. A Testimonial Banquet followed at Casino Español de Cebu with many wellwishers from the clergy and the private sector in attendance.
Known Sto. Niño devotee and antiques collector Val Sandiego was honoree at a thanksgiving celebration for the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice award he received last Dec. 15. “Pasalamat” was how his family (led by proud wife Ofelia) dubbed the dinner affair at Casino Español attended by relatives and friends. But of course, the members of the Sandiego Dance Troupe, of whom Val is the top gun/dance director, were very much present.
Five lovely Cebuanas took centerstage at the Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino when they were chosen finalists at the Miss Cebu selection. The coveted crown went to Kefaiah Al-Zair with Patricia Gail Dueñas as first runner-up. Completing the Miss Cebu court of honor were second runner-up Corinthia Marie Empe, third runner-up Chynna Julienne Dorado and fourth runner-up Niña Danielle Illustrisimo.
Robert Pableo “Bob” Lim finally fulfilled his cherished dream with the launch of his book of poems, “Batang Colon,” on Jan. 21 at the Archdiocesean Museum of Cebu. The book is a collection of 32 “balak”/ Binisaya poems with a social contemporary voice that are both celebratory and transformative. Program host during the afternoon affair (directed by Rudy Aviles) was Dante Luzon, who was also one of the poem readers along with Sam Costanilla, Gingging Dumdum, Ligaya Rabago, Niño Ardiza, Butch Bandillo, Yadz Anabelle, Emman Amante, Lilia Tio and some others.

The active members of the Inner Wheel Clubs of Cebu, led by Stella Bernabe (past national president of the Inner Wheel Club of the Philippines), are on their toes preparing for the 57th National Conference to be held here in our Queen City at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel on Feb. 24 and 25.
