Danao City launches Project Sidlak, Bida program as part of war vs drugs

THE Danao City Government launched project Sidlak, or Singgit sa Danawanong Luwas ug Abag Kontra Droga, to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs in the city.

The program on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, included the granting of awards to areas that were declared drug-free.

The City Government honored Barangays Binaliw, Ibo, Malapoc, Manlayag, Mantija, Pili, Sandayong Norte, Sandayong Sur and Togonon after these were declared drug-free by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

One of the highlights of the event was the launching of the Bida (Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan) program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). It’s a nationwide campaign against illegal drugs with the intention of reducing the drug demand in communities through “a more holistic and intensified approach.”

At the end of the program, Mayor Thomas Mark Durano and representatives of various agencies signed a manifesto to show their commitment in the fight against illegal drugs in the city.

“The campaign is within the framework of the law and with respect for human rights with a focus on rehabilitation and socio-economic development,” according to the official social media page of the Danao City Government. (ANV/PJB)
