As the world slowly reshapes itself into its new normalcy, one thing dearly missed is also coming back: live music shows at the Mall. Ayala Malls Abreeza made 2023 explosive by bringing back one of Manila’s best indie rock-jazz bands, “SUD” onstage last January 14.

After the long absence of live music, gigs, and concerts are now back in full swing, with multiple events often happening at the same time. The volume of the crowd during the concert and excitement is understandable, you will be kind of befuddled at the sight of Gen Z making their way into the activity area. SUD is known to drive their fans with extreme energy which is a big part of what makes their live shows great.

SUD (pronounced /so͞od/) is a five-piece act formed in 2011 that has released music with genres ranging from alternative soul, and alt-rock, under Warner Music Philippines. The band is composed of Sud Ballecer on vocals and guitar, Jimbo Cuenco on drums, Carlos de la Fuente on saxophone, Kohl Aguilar on the keyboard, and Raisa Racelis, who wore a silvery sparkling top with sequin details, and joked that her look for the day is inspired by a fish called “Bangus.”

The band is popularly known for their hit singles "Smilky", "Profanities", "Make U Say", and "Sila", they also covered OPM Rock classic Kitchie Nadal's 2004 hit rock song Huwag Na Huwag Mong Sasabihin in 2018.

The event area then became a big karaoke-sing along when the band performed their hits and then some, with a revival of VST’s “ Ipagpatawad Mo.” The band’s lead singer Sud asked the crowd to stand, wave their hands and jump up and down and sing along with their song, Baliw.

The five members were at their best element and seemingly overwhelmed by the number of people who came to see them perform live. The band expressed gratitude for their supportive fans, saying, “It’s been a while, it’s really nice to see you all again." Fans also had the chance to converse with SUD and have their album and merchandise signed as well as a photo op.
