Police eyes illegal drugs as motive on ‘severed hands’ case

THE Bacolod City Police Station 2 is looking into illegal drugs as the possible motive behind the recovery of a pair of severed hands that was found inside an ice cream tub at Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2, Bacolod City Wednesday, January 25.

Captain Jonito Pastrana, commander of Police Station 2, said Thursday, January 26, the footage of closed circuit television (CCTV) camera showed a white van vehicle stopped along the waste disposal area at Purok Kagaykay at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, January 25.

However, he said it was too far and the plate number of the vehicle is not clear.

"We are now validating to determine the owner of the vehicle," he added.

The ice cream container where the severed hands were found was also placed inside a box and dumped along Purok Kagaykay.

Also, inside the container were cooking ingredients.

A piece of paper with a list of several persons allegedly involved in drugs was also found in the box.

Pastrana said the severed hands might belong to an individual involved in illegal drugs operation.

He said the hands, cut from the wrist, were subjected to a fingerprint and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

Pastrana noted that there were no reported missing individuals in the area of Police Station 2.

Moreover, Pastrana also held a meeting with Barangay 2 Captain Imelda Banguanga Thursday.

Pastrana said the village chief confirmed that most of the 22 individuals on the list are said to be residents of the village.

He said some of them are still in jail while others are drug surrenderers, adding that the incident might be committed by individuals who are also involved in illegal drugs.

Pastrana also urged those individuals who were included in the list to visit the station for a blotter report and to clear their records.*
