AT least 83 passengers got stranded in seaports in northern Cebu due to cancellation of sea trips brought by the low pressure area on Thursday, January 26, 2023.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Stephen Pagcaliwagan, information officer of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Central Visayas, said 47 passengers were stranded in seaports in Malapascua Island and Barangay Logon, Daanbantayan town in mainland Cebu, while 36 others got stuck in Polambato, Bogo City.

Pagcaliwagan said at least 38 vessels were not able to leave ports on Thursday due to heavy rains and big waves.

The vessels whose trips were canceled were those with a gross tonnage of 250 and below.

The PCG lifted the suspension of sea trips going to Western Bohol, Camotes, southern Cebu and Negros Oriental on Friday, January 27, when the weather has improved. (ANV, TPT)
