A COHORT of one of the most wanted persons in the country was killed in a shootout with policemen in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police reported Friday, January 27, 2023.
Police Brigadier General Neil Alinsañgan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the slain cohort of the most wanted persons as Gripon Alasa.
Alinsañgan said Alasa was killed in a shootout that broke out around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday in Balonai village, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur.
He said a 20-minute shootout ensued when policemen returned fire after they were fired upon by a group of gunmen led by Badles Domandos while they were about to serve warrant of arrest against the group’s leader.
Alinsañgan said the name of Domandos is the list of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and Department of National Defense as a national-level most wanted person with reward and has pending warrant of arrest for the crime of murder.
He said Domandos and his other followers managed to escape leaving behind Alasa’s remains, which was later turned over to his family.
Alinsañgan said the policemen recovered a Garand rifle with ammunition at the clash site. (SunStar Zamboanga)
