Quibranza III: Big breakfast

Anybody else here love Sunday mornings? I know I do.

For those who spend long hours at work during the week, Sundays become revered in a way. Sleeping in, rolling in bed an extra couple of hours—we embrace every tick of the second reminding ourselves that we have a life to live at our own pace.

One particular Sunday morning had the wife and I randomly thinking of brunch and bubbles. We’re really not drinkers per se, but the whole concept just sounded fancy. We ended up heading to this brunch place and unfortunately, it was just a waste of money. The food was so-so, and the pancakes literally tasted like cardboard.

Imagine my delight when I learned that a stay at Citadines Cebu City also included breakfast for two at Abaca Baking Company (ABC), Baseline Center, Citadines. It’s basically located on the ground floor of the apartment hotel.

I knew The Abaca Group is a company that takes its food game seriously, and that at their worst, are still capable of serving great bites yet priced past what is considered by most of us as affordable.

I walked in and was delighted to see a variety of menu items ranging from Continental offerings to Asian favorites. The pastry selection is another winner, when you realize that you have unlimited access to your favorite breads that usually lie behind a glass counter in your favorite ABC branch.

The servers are polite and alert. The manager is hands-on ensuring refills are done promptly and done right. And because this column is all about the flavor first: The food and drinks are excellent.

Bottomline: Cebuano foodies should try its breakfast at Abaca Baking Company Citadines at least once (serving from 6 to 10 a.m.); see, taste and experience its morning spread, and decide for themselves if the hype is real. I’d bet you a kilo of red onions that you will be walking out of its doors feeling like royalty after getting your money’s worth at this breakfast buffet. Pound for pound—at P799 per walk-in customer—I could say it’s the best one in town.

Of course, taste is very subjective, and I would be more than happy to hear from strangers, friends and colleagues if they think there’s a better breakfast joint in Cebu worth trying out next time. Let me know in social media or send an email.

And to think I do intermittent fasting.
