THE rates of Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) slightly decreased for the month of January 2023.

Fermin Edillion, Davao Light Reputation Enhancement Department manager, told SunStar Davao on Friday, January 27 that the power rate for January is P12.4486 kilowatts per hour, which is slightly lower than the P12.6357 rate last December 2022.

This is because the generation rate also slightly declined in the same period, from P7.7981 in December last year to P7.6397 this month.

Edillion said the cause of the decline was because of the rise and fall of crude oil prices in the world market in the past two months driven by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the regulation from the world’s top oil producers.

Thus, Edillion said it would be hard to predict whether power rates would increase, decrease, or become stable for 2023 since supply and prices would be determined by the situation in the world market.

With this, consumers are advised to take control of their power usage to ensure low or stable electricity bills, such as limiting energy consumption or using energy-efficient devices which, Edillion said it would be a huge help to save on their electricity bill.

“Rate per kilowatt hour and consumption, either sa duha ang magsaka sa bill (Rate per kilowatt hour and consumption are the two factors). Kung wala nag taas ang rate pero taas imong bill (If the rate did not increase but your bill is high), it could be your consumption. If maintained imong consumption (If you maintained your consumption), the next factor to consider is the rate. It could also be if nag saka imong consumption pero parehas lang sa previous month ang bill (your consumption increased but your bill is the same), it could be nag baba ang rate (the rate decreased),” he explained.

Meanwhile, during the second half of 2022, Edillion said the month of August saw the highest power rates last year with P13.2883 kilowatt per hour while June had the lowest rate at P11.1086.

Despite this, Edillion assured that DLPC’s distribution rates remain low, which is P2.3802 kilowatt per hour since 2013. ICM
