ANYONE caught causing trouble in public will be arrested and charged with alarm and scandal.

That was the warning issued by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog on Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Members of the Abellana Police Station detained five youths from Barangays Lahug and Mambaling who were involved in a street brawl along General Maxilom Avenue in Barangay Kamputhaw at dawn on Friday, January 27.

Police will file the charge of alarm and scandal against them on Monday, January 30.

“According to initial investigation, the ramble started after the youths from Mambaling were attacked by the youths from Lahug,” Dalogdog said in Cebuano.

Major Nolan Tagsip, chief of the Abellana Police Station, said they were only able to catch one youth from Lahug because his companions were able to flee when police arrived at the scene.

He said the two groups had been drinking before the commotion started.

The police chief echoed the CCPO director’s warning, saying they will not hesitate to detain anyone they catch causing trouble on the street.

He said they’ve also asked owners of bar establishments in their jurisdiction to immediately coordinate with authorities if they encounter similar lawlessness.

Meanwhile, Dalogdog ordered Tagsip to coordinate with officials of Barangay Kamputhaw regarding the filing of charges against the youths on Monday.

Dalogdog said this should serve as a warning to parents not to let their children loiter in the streets at night.

“Police will charge anyone they catch to prevent a repeat of the incident and to teach these youths a lesson,” he said in Cebuano. (BBT)
