LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Junard Chan wants the city to be “drug-free” following the arrest of a drug dealer who yielded more than half a kilo of shabu in Sitio Mustang, Barangay Pusok on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023.

Chan ordered Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Director Col. Elmer Lim to guard the entry points to the city to prevent contraband from entering.

He praised members of the team that arrested Gerard Alipin Baron, a 39-year-old resident of Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, on Friday.

He said the P3.9 million worth of shabu seized from the suspect made a huge dent in the illegal drug trade in the city.

Chan said operatives of the City Intelligence Unit and the City Drug Enforcement Unit have seized more than a kilo of shabu this month alone.

The mayor said six of the city’s 30 barangays have been declared drug-cleared.

These are Barangays Caohagan, Tingo, Tungasan, Baring, Cow-oy and Sabang in Olango Island.

According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government website, a drug-cleared barangay “refers to a barangay that is previously classified as drug affected and underwent BDCP (Barangay Drug Clearing Program) and declared as drug-cleared by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing.” (BBT / PJB)
