THE volume of fishes that washed ashore in Barangay Culipapa, Hinoba-an on Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28, was “unusual this year,” Mayor Daph Anthony Reliquias said.

He said tons of flying fish or barungoy, which is good for human consumption, would usually appear at the beach in the barangay every year but not as many as last Friday and Saturday.

The mayor said that one of the reasons why such volume of fish that flocked to the seaside was maybe due to the low tide.

Reliquias said barungoy may have a better production the past several months because of the imposed ban, giving the fish to spawn.

After two days, that volume of fish disappeared.

The mayor said many local residents have benefited from the bountiful fish, as some have sold it in the neighboring areas while some used it for their consumption.*
