A COMMERCIAL supermarket in Pinamungajan town, southwest Cebu lost more than P1 million of its earnings to unidentified burglars on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023.

Personnel of the Prince Town Warehouse were about to check their cash vault when they noticed that the vault was already open at 7 a.m. on Sunday.

The supermarket’s personnel told police that at least P1.6 million in cash that had been kept there was now gone.

Moneth Tangarorang, the supermarket’s manager, said the door of the room where the vault is located was already open.

Maj. Vincent Zozobrado, chief of the Pinamungajan Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that at least three to five persons may have committed the burglary.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspects stayed inside the store around closing time and went to the second floor.

They destroyed the door knob of the room where the vault is located.

The burglars even took the memory card of a CCTV camera, which was adjusted to an upward position.

Zozobrado said the CCTV camera captured three men who pretended to be customers on Saturday morning.

They believe that the suspects were already observing the mall operations prior to committing the crime.

Zozobrado said the thieves may be affiliated with an organized crime group from other areas. (GPL / TPT)
