ORGANIZERS of the Colon Night Market assured the public that the country’s oldest street will once again bustle with food and people in the coming months.

For now, the night market will take a three to four months hiatus or until Mayor Michael Rama orders its return.

Maria Pino, the president of the Cebu City United Vendors Association told SunStar Cebu Tuesday, January 31, 2023, that temporarily halting the night market will allow Colon Street to take a break after being open for more than two months since November 2022.

The busy night market that was filled with a variety of food and merchandise stopped its operation on Monday, January 30.

Pino explained the Colon Night Market traditionally opens for the Christmas and Sinulog seasons only.

The temporary closure is also beneficial for the vendors since they have noticed that the hype has faded after the Sinulog Festival.

The breather will also reduce the traffic jam on Colon Street allowing the return of normal flow in the area.

Pino further explained that once the night market will reopen in upcoming months, a new level of hype will once again entice the public to visit.

Around 300 stalls selling dry goods and around 100 food stalls were on display at the night market. (IRT)
