AN OFFICIAL of the Talisay City Government plans to talk with telecommunications companies to conduct offsite SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card registration in the city.
City Councilor Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III, chairman of the committee on education and information technology, said they plan to hold it in the barangays.
He said some residents have already registered their SIM cards, but majority of their constituents have yet to do so because they don’t know how.
“To everyone, we should follow this because it is the law. It takes time, and there are also many benefits to registering the SIM. Let’s do it and spend time for this to comply with the law,” he said in a mix of Cebuano and English.
Meanwhile, Joel Orbiso, a councilor of Jaclupan, a mountain barangay in the city, said he will be happy if the offsite registration pushes through because he and many of his colleagues have yet to register their SIM cards.
He said many of his constituents have not registered because they either find it too complicated or the signal is poor in their area.
Under Republic Act 11934, or the SIM Registration Act, all existing and new subscribers have until April 26 to register their SIM cards.
Failure to register within the prescribed period will result in the automatic deactivation of the SIM. (BBT / PJB)
