Last day of voters’ reg goes smoothly

AN official from the Commission on Elections-Davao Region (Comelec-Davao) said the last day for the voters’ registration of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) has been smooth despite some last-minute applicants.

“Kay gitabangan ta sa atong mga mall management... thankful ta dirang dapita because daghan ang mitabang sa atoa para mahapsay atong registration (The mall management has been very helpful... We are thankful for all the help we could get to ensure that registration is smooth),” Comelec-Davao assistant regional director Lawyer Atty. Gay Enumerables told SunStar Davao in a phone call interview.

During the last day of voters’ registration, residents from the first district flocked to SM City Davao while those from the second district were catered at SM Lanang Premier. Third district residents, meanwhile, registered at the Magsaysay Park.

Enumerables said while the registration was generally smooth, there was a short power interruption in Magsaysay Park at around noon on January 31. This interrupted the registration but it was resolved quickly.

“Naresolve man siya dayon (It was quickly resolved) within a few minutes,” she said.

However, there were still some people who registered by the last minute. Comelec-Davao had to implement a cut-off and a numbering system.

“Dagsa jud ang tao, ang pila sa tao dasok (A lot of people were lining-up),” Enumerables said.

Enumerables said for Davao Region, around 110,000 transactions were done as of January 30, these include registrations, transfer of residence, reactivations, and information corrections.

The BSKE in the Philippines is scheduled on October 30, 2023. ICE
