AN OFFICIAL of Talisay City Government is eyeing to partner with other local government units (LGUs) or foreign countries that can help them in times of disaster and other emergency situations.

Councilor Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III, chairman of the City Council committee on education and information technology, submitted a proposed ordinance pertaining to their plan during the Council’s 26th regular session on January 24.

"An ordinance setting the guidelines for the establishment of sister cities or town twinning both locally and internationally, and creating the sister city council providing funds therefor," Gullas said in his proposal.

Gullas said on Tuesday, January 31, that the ordinance will benefit the Talisaynons.

"It could also help the city in cases like calamities kon kita magkinahanglan (when the need arises)," he said.

The City Government had already met with representatives from other countries to talk about the sister-city agreement.

"Ang ila sad ato nga mopatrabaho sila ug mga farmers ngadto sa ilang nasud apan sa kasamtangan, taphaw pa ang maong pakigsabot gyud," Gullas said.

(What they wanted was to hire farmers to work in their country, but the discussion has yet to be finalized.)

Gullas is optimistic about the success of the program as it has already received feelers from interested parties even though the measure is still on its first reading.

"Open ni sa local and foreign countries nga dunay mga siyudad nga willing sa atong mga plano (with cities that like our plan)," Gullas said. (BBT/TPT)
