CEBU Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia wants the provincial and district hospitals to improve their facilities and health services in 60 days.

Garcia said on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, that she will issue a directive to the officials of Province-run hospitals following the evaluation done by the Capitol monitoring team, which is headed by health consultant Dr. Mary Jean Loreche and Provincial Board member Stanley Caminero, the committee on health chairman.

According to the evaluation, only three of the 16 provincial and district hospitals under Cebu Province got a perfect score.

The Cebu Provincial Hospital-Balamban, Cebu Provincial Hospital-Carcar City and Ricardo Maningo District Hospital in San Francisco town, Camotes Islands were recognized as the top performers after getting a perfect score of 5.0 during the evaluation process.

Other hospitals that also got higher grades were Tuburan District Hospital and Minglanilla District Hospital (4.8), Oslob District Hospital with (4.6), Malabuyoc District Hospital (4.3) and Badian District Hospital (4.3), Argao District Hospital (4.2), Sogod District Hospital (3.5) and Pinamungajan District Hospital (3.4).

Only the provincial hospital in Danao City in northern Cebu, received the lowest score, 3.0.

Criteria

The health facilities were graded based on the food that they served to the patients, their cleanliness, the performance of health workers and on how they maximize the use of their equipment.

Loreche said the three-month evaluation process that started in September last year had the following criteria: hospital infrastructure, leadership and management, client satisfaction and economics, among others.

“It’s really more on operations,” she said.

But Loreche said the hospitals that got higher grades still need improvement.

“Although we gave them a perfect score, that’s on leadership and management. There are things man gud that are beyond their control,” Loreche explained.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Garcia said she plans to issue a directive to all hospital heads under the province to improve their services based on the assessment.

“I [will give] them 60 days to address the concerns. By the end of 60 days, we will schedule another round of inspection by the team,” Garcia said. (ANV / TPT)
