THE Davao City Engineer’s Office (CEO) said they would hold a company liable for damages in the Marilog Bridge collapse on January 30.

According to the CEO inspection report, the mixer truck, which caused damage to the steel bridge, was owned by a concrete manufacturing company.

The document also stated that the estimated cost of the damaged bridge is P5,320,890. No casualties were recorded, except for a minor injury the truck driver sustained from the incident.

It also stated that the bridge could only carry vehicles below five tons. The truck crossed the bridge carrying 25 tons of load, which caused the bridge’s collapse.

Signboards pointing to a detour road are also present near the bridge.

“Despite na naa’y tonnage ana [na bridge] na load limit, nganong niagi gyud sila (Despite the load limit, the truck still drove over the bridge),” Atty. Joseph Dominic Felizarta, CEO officer-in-charge, said in an interview with SunStar Davao.

He said their office would endorse the incident to the City Legal Office.

“Usually among procedure ana i-forward sa City Legal [Office], magsulat sila og demand letter na ilang bayaran, didto sila [ang liable na company] magstorya sa City Legal (Usually our procedure is that we’ll forward our inspection report to the City Legal Office, they will write a demand letter to the liable company, then they will talk about it),” Felizarta said.

“If dili sila magbayad, file-an sila og kaso (If the liable company will not pay, we will file a case against them),” he added.

Meanwhile, CEO also confirmed that the abandoned truck was removed from the area on February 3. ICE
