VENDORS in Bankerohan Public Market said current flower prices remain stable but they are expecting them to increase as Valentine’s Day approaches.

With its growing demand and its limited supply from growers in Buda and Calinan, the prices of most decorative flowers, like roses, might go up, said flower owners and sellers interviewed by SunStar Davao on February 3.

White, red, yellow, and pink roses are now priced at P150 to P200 per dozen stems. A bouquet of a dozen roses costs P300 to P600.

Meanwhile, sunflowers cost P100 to P150 per piece; orchids sold at P500/dozen; baby’s breath at P200 to P300/dozen depending on color; carnation at P150/bundle; violets at P200/bundle; and jimba at P200/bundle.

Most of the vendors say that since the start of February, they have increased the price of most flowers by P5 to P10.

Berna Sales, a vendor, said their suppliers are currently delivering 15 dozen at a time this month, compared to 70 dozen preciously.

“Tapos next week gi-inform na mi daan na ang flowers motaas na ang presyo sa bulak (We were told that the prices of flowers will increase),” she said.

Lina Ortega, a flower shop owner, said during February, the price and supply of flowers are not “normal.”

She said that their suppliers export their flowers to other places, hence, receiving a limited supply.

“Ga-deliver pod daw sila sa Manila, Cebu, Butuan, Surigao, GenSan (They said they deliver to Manila, Cebu, Butuan, Surigao, and General Santos),” she said. ICE
