The Department of Public Works and Highways-Davao Region (DPWH-Davao) said the damaged bridge in Marilog is now condemned and will be replaced.

“It was due for removal na, condemned na to actually (it was already condemned). Kambyohan na man siya ug concrete (it will be replaced with a concrete bridge),” DPWH Davao spokesperson Dean Ortiz said in an interview with SunStar Davao on February 2, 2023.

On January 30, a bridge in Marilog collapsed after a mixer truck attempted to cross it. The damage costs roughly P5,320,890.

Ortiz said DPWH has already started the construction of a new bridge.

“While ongoing ang project, naay detour na puwede magamit ang mga residente (a detour has been provided for the residents),” he said.

As of writing, DPWH is yet to confirm the completion date of the new bridge.

Meanwhile, the Davao City Engineering Office (CEO) said the mixer truck company will hold the company accountable for the cost of damage.

In a separate interview, Atty. Joseph Dominic Felizarta, CEO officer-in-charge, said the incident will be endorsed to the City Legal Office.

“Usually among procedure ana i-forward sa City Legal [Office], magsulat sila og demand letter na ilang bayaran, didto sila [ang liable na company] magstorya sa City Legal (Usually our procedure is that we’ll forward our inspection report to the City Legal Office, they will write a demand letter to the liable company, then they will talk about it),” Felizarta said.
