THE Davao City Agriculturist Office (Cagro) plans to expand the organic farmers market if they will be given additional space.

“Kung naa ta'y area, siguro kung naay mall nga mag-offer nga malibre sila didto ([We will be able to expand it] if we have a bigger space or if some of the malls can provide our farmers a space to use for free),” Edgardo Haspe, Cagro Head, said in an ambush interview with SunStar Davao on February 6, 2023.

He said they will try to expand the organic market by November, which is the national organic month.

“We can also ask mga malls nato diri sa Davao (here in Davao), nga kung pwede magbutang sila og area nga maka-display atong mga organic practitioners didto sa ilang mga produkto (if they can give us an area where our organic farmers can display their products),” Haspe said.

Meanwhile, as the city government of Davao continues to intensify the promotion of organic farming, Haspe said Cagro continues to offer training to interested individuals and organic farmers.

He said they also provide seeds and organic fertilizers to those who want to start to start organic farming.

“Although right now, limited pa atong organic fertilizer but naa ta’y gina-produce nga vermicast didto sa Malagos central nursery (our organic fertilizers are limited but we continue to produce vermicast at the central nursery Malagos),” Haspe said.

He added that once the compost machine, which is also in Malagos, will be fully operational, they will be able to provide more fertilizers for the farmers.

“Ang kulang naman lang ato kay kuryente kay di siya mapadagan. So, within this year naa na gyud na, mga third quarter this year (We are just waiting for our power connection. It will be operational within the year, probably around the third quarter),” Haspe said. KSD
