A TAIWANESE envoy asked the National Government to provide visa-free travel to Taiwanese tourists who wanted to visit the Philippines.

Taiwan Ambassador to the Philippines Michael Pei Yung Hsu said the move will promote economic growth and tourism between the two countries.

He said the Taiwanese government currently allows Filipino tourists to stay in their country for 14 days even without a travel visa.

On the other hand, Taiwanese nationals who wished to visit the Philippines had to apply for a visa.

He added that the 14 days visa-free stay in Taiwan, which expires on July 31, 2023, may be extended in the future.

Hsu believes that amending the existing policy between the two nations will deepen their diplomatic and foreign relations with the Philippines.

"If you grant us visa-free program, I believe we will have at least a million Taiwanese coming to the Philippines," Hsu said during the launching of the Taiwan Tourism Workshop Cebu leg on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

Hsu cited as an example the around three million Taiwanese tourists who would visit Japan and Korea annually without presenting a travel visa. (EHP)
