Bizman, wife post bail for estafa

A WARRANT of arrest has been issued by the Municpal Trial Court in Cities in Danao City, Cebu, against businessman and former Cebu City Council aspirant Ernesto Herrera II and his spouse, Vanessa Herrera, for alleged estafa.

Judge Mae Lizbeth Avila Williams furnished the warrant of arrest dated February 6, 2023.

But according to the Investigation and Detection Management Unit (IDMU) of the Cebu City Police Office, the Herrera couple "voluntarily surrendered" in a mall on Gen. Maxilom Ave. on Tuesday, February 7.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu Wednesday, February 8, Police Senior Master Sergeant Julius Regis of the IDMU said the couple was able to provide a copy of the release order upon their supposed apprehension.

Regis said the lawyer of the accused contacted their unit to voluntarily submit the surrender of its clients.

Williams set the bail for each of the accused at P16,000.

Regis said they were not able to detain the couple since they have presented a release order signed by Judge Marlon Jay Moneva of the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City.

In February 2019, Richard and Janice Kintanar, business partners of the Hererras, filed a complaint against the latter before the Danao City Prosecutor’s Office for theft and estafa.

The Prosecutor's Office, however, dismissed the case for lack of merit in March 2019. (IRT)
