The 95th Academy Awards is fast approaching as it announced its list of nominees, who are all set to potentially win the coveted award this coming March. Among all the categories, the most prestigious award of the night is the Best Picture category.

The films that won under this category are masterpieces and have continued to stand the test of time. Here are five Best Picture films that you need to watch or rewatch right now:

“Spotlight” (2016)

Based on a true story about an investigative team unraveling the Catholic Church’s system of secrecy and abuse, the film “Spotlight” is one of those films that will forever resonate with those who watch it. “Spotlight” shows the true work of investigative journalism without the usual thrill and action that is seen in most journalism films but it is still able to bring the weight and urgency of the matter as it gradually increases.

“Amadeus” (1984)

A biographical film of the world-renowned musical genius and prodigy, the film “Amadeus” shows the summaries of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life through the account of an Italian musician that worked with him, Antonio Salieri. The film centers on Salieri’s bitter jealousy of Mozart’s talents but it also showcases how the two different musicians were able to bond despite the circumstances. The film starts strong with Salieri claiming that he killed Mozart, and that’s how it hooks you towards the end.

“Silence of the Lambs” (1991)

In a bone-chilling performance from one of the world’s greatest actors of all time, Anthony Hopkins plays pop culture’s favorite serial killer, Hannibal Lecter. Jodie Foster plays an FBI agent tasked to interview Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist, and psychopath who is sentenced to life in prison due to his heinous crimes, and squeeze out information about another serial killer that’s rampantly skinning women. This thriller film is a cinematic masterpiece that enamors its viewers despite its gruesome scenes.

“Gone with the Wind” (1939)

Considered one of the greatest love stories on film, “Gone with the Wind” is another classic film that had its viewers obsessed since it was first released in 1939. A manipulative woman and a crooked man get married during the Civil War and Reconstruction periods and have a turbulent romance that has everyone either frustrated or swooning over. The pinnacle of Hollywood’s Golden Age, “Gone with the Wind” is one of Hollywood’s early cinematic masterpieces. From the set, costume design, casting, music, and Vivien Leigh’s incredible performance, it is safe to say that this film has it all.

“Parasite” (2019)

A film that made history as the first non-English film to win Best Picture, “Parasite” has an insane plot twist as well as a compelling story that uniquely tackles classism as well as the widening gap between the rich and the poor. The movie starts with a family deceitfully getting their way into a rich family’s household and working for them until they were discovered by another employee. S
